Every family business has a beginning. Some begin with an idea, others with an opportunity. Brincat Pianos began with a lifelong passion for music.
Founded more than sixty-six years ago, the business traces its origins to Saviour Brincat, a pianist, organist, piano tuner and piano restorer who believed that music deserved to be experienced through instruments of genuine quality. While raising a family of six children with his wife Rosa, he combined his musical knowledge with an entrepreneurial spirit, taking every opportunity to transform his craft into a livelihood. What began with tuning, restoration and the occasional piano sale gradually evolved into a business dedicated entirely to pianos, growing steadily over three decades until his passing in 1994.
His work established more than a family business. It laid the foundations for a reputation built on knowledge, craftsmanship and trust.
Today, Brincat Pianos is proudly led by its third generation, building upon the dedication of the second generation while remaining guided by the same principles on which the business was founded. The objective has never been to preserve the past simply for tradition’s sake, but to continue developing the business in a way that reflects the needs of today’s musicians while remaining faithful to the values that have shaped it for more than six decades.
One belief has consistently guided that journey: every pianist deserves an instrument capable of supporting their musical ambitions.
For many years, piano ownership in Malta has understandably been shaped by practical considerations. Making the instrument accessible to families has enabled generations of young musicians to begin learning and has played an important role in developing piano education across the islands. Yet as the standard of music education has continued to rise, access to instruments of an equally high standard has not always kept pace.
Too often, talented pianists reached a point where the instrument available to them no longer reflected the level they had achieved. While opportunities to study, perform and pursue music professionally continued to grow, access to the same breadth and quality of instruments readily available elsewhere in Europe remained limited.
Brincat Pianos was built on the belief that this should no longer be the case.
That belief has shaped every decision the company has made in recent years. Rather than simply increasing the number of instruments available, the focus has been on carefully selecting manufacturers whose values reflect those of the business itself. Today, Brincat Pianos is proud to represent Steinway & Sons, Boston, Essex, C. Bechstein, W. Hoffmann, Zimmermann and Dexibell; brands whose histories span generations and whose reputations have been earned through craftsmanship, innovation and an unwavering commitment to musical excellence.
These relationships are about far more than exclusive distribution agreements. They represent a shared commitment to quality, technical expertise and the long-term care of every instrument entrusted to a pianist. They also reflect a belief that Malta deserves access to the same calibre of pianos, technical support and specialist knowledge that musicians would expect to find in Europe’s leading musical centres.
This philosophy extends well beyond the instruments themselves.
Every pianist has different aspirations, every family has different priorities and every home has different requirements. For that reason, Brincat Pianos has never believed that the role of a piano retailer is simply to sell the most expensive instrument in the showroom. Its responsibility is to understand each customer’s needs and recommend the piano that best supports their musical journey, whether that is a new instrument, a carefully prepared pre-owned piano or a professionally restored instrument with many more decades of music still to give.
The relationship does not end once a piano is delivered. Tuning, servicing, restoration, concert preparation and ongoing technical support remain central to the business because a piano is not a temporary purchase. It is an instrument expected to become part of a family’s life for generations, and it deserves to be cared for accordingly.
More than sixty-six years after its foundation, Brincat Pianos continues to look towards the future with the same sense of purpose that inspired its beginnings.
